A Little of Grit, a Little of That

I just love shooting in Denver! Anytime I can mix a little grit with a great looking subject I'm all over it, and so was the lovely couple of Trystin and Sky whose engagement pictures we took Thanksgiving weekend. For a late November morning, we could not have planned better weather if we had that sort of pull with mother nature! One of the reasons I love city shooting is because there is always a great park nearby, so no background sacrifice needs to be made... we had it all! These two were up for and willing to do anything! Trystin, white coat and all, didn't even blink when I asked her to kick up her feet and roll around in the grass.

Congrats on the engagement you two!!

2010 Eve: Baby Bumps and More!

This post is going to be a bit like the Potpourri category on Jeopardy... a little of this and a little of that. It was originally going to be dedicated to the beauty of pregnancy, but I just realized I only photographed two maternity shoots this year. Convincing a woman who is eight months pregnant that she is gorgeous has proved to be quite the feat!

So I am going a bit off trail here and leading with the beautiful belly shots, but then including a bunch of unrelated images, much of which have yet to be seen on my blog. There are some random photographs taken just for me, a senior portrait sitting, some commercial work and lastly a few photos from a recent cookbook/product shoot I did. Nothing is set to be published at this point, but it was fun to be a part of and a nice change from what I am used to shooting.

Enjoy the mish-mash and let me know what you think!

2010 Eve

It's the first of December and I still have no idea where all of 2010 went. Back in February I took a look at my crazy wedding calendar and new that my summer was going evaporate before I knew it, but I wasn't expecting the rest of the year to do the same. This past year was such an amazing journey for Krista Watzel Photography. I doubled my shoot count from 2009, shot 17 weddings and have finally made it out of the friend zone to a point where complete strangers are now calling me for weddings, family pictures, product photography and anything else that requires a great image.

To celebrate and look back on this past year of growth, I am going to spend the next five weeks of December sharing the highlights of this past year. To keep up with on my recent holiday sittings I will still be posting as usual, but every Wednesday I will create a post dedicated to Little Ones, Maternity, Engagements, Families and Weddings with my favorite shot from each shoot. We're starting off the five week tour through my photography year with all of the itty-bitty models that always make me smile.

Let me know which is your favorite!

Botanic Fall

Who knew there were two Botanic Gardens?! Not this little lady! I have a boatload of locations that I suggest to couples for their engagement session depending on their personalities, but love it just as much when a couple comes to me with a location they really enjoy. And that's how I discovered the Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield. Check it out if you haven't before.

I did Rachael and Ed's engagement pictures just a few weeks before Halloween, when all of the leaves were a gorgeous golden yellow and still on the trees, which made for a pretty awesome backdrop. Now that I know of the Gardens, a spring and summer visit are definitely in order.

If you're curious about the random picture where Rachael and Ed are surrounded by a bunch of "hillbillies," a group had rented out the barn at the Garden's for a "Hillbilly Hoedown" and all dressed the part. The fun, hick-happy crew insisted on having their picture taken with the bride and groom to-be... and who could possibly resist that?
